So I’m back from Mexico

March 5th, 2008

where the sun and the 84 degree water got me kick started on the final six months of training before Ironman Canada.

My lap pool was 4 feet deep, 25m wide between the sand dune and the shoreline and..

ten kilometres long!

I merely jogged down the beach, goggles in hand, and when I had gone far enough, say, 2kms, I’d just fall into the crystal blue water and swim back to the hotel for lunch.

Running on packed sand was lovely and I could go for miles with no one else out there, just me the sand, the beach and a hundred pelicans diving continuously after fish.

Now I’m back and have been commuting daily 50k by bicycle, running 25k per week and the weather is improving day by day.

Last week: 03/02 run:25k bike:187k swim:1.6k

172 days to go.

My Training has been re-shaped

January 24th, 2008

by the weather of late. It is minus 14C without the windchill along the lake.

I have only biked 12k per week so far this month - that will change soon.

I have managed to run 25k per week but my weight has risen to 217lbs - up ten pounds since December 1st.

Hoping for an early Spring,

Beginning Holiday Padding.

December 17th, 2007

Woke up this morning to weigh 211lbs - a result of parties Friday evening and Saturday as well as spending last night with pizza, popcorn, pop and Potter - Harry Potter that is.

The last three weeks have seen a diminishing exercise output in proportion to worsening weather.

Monday Ride

November 27th, 2007

It was only minus 2 degrees but damp and a headwind so it felt like minus 10 degrees C.

MOnday afternoon it started snowing so I wussed out and caught a ride with the GF.

The Bianchi rides well with 27″ wheels and heavy duty tires. No aerobars, regular toeclip pedals. My toes get cold though.

Artwork

In my office I get to admire the art anytime I look up.

My new P2SL Frame - It has arrived!

November 15th, 2007

It has arrived
My new P2SL Frame - with seat post and forks has arrived!

Most of you know it was awarded to me at IMC . It has been described as an award to the racer “most in need of a technology upgrade” heh.
My old Bianchi - ridden 3x at IMC.

My trusty Bianchi

P2SL
Flash media of the P2SL

It looks gorgeous.
I love the gray tones with the black forks and post - it is a work of art!

In fact I have assembled the three components and hung it on the wall next to a signed print of Bluenose II - a national icon, perhaps the Cervélo will become a national icon?

I get excited just looking at it.

To Cervélo, thank you so much.
I wish to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all of you at Cervélo from the designers to the promotions team who made this presentation.

I’ll keep you informed as the build proceeds.

I rode to work this morning on my trusty old Bianchi. It was cool, damp, but enjoyable - about an hour @ 25kph. Good Zone 1 ride. The UPS guy arrived about 11am. I have been expecting him since Tuesday morning. It was fun to unwrap my November Xmas present. I put the seat post and forks together and hung it on the wall so I can admire it until I can buy the parts I’ll need. What fun the shopping will be!

Orion Reclining

November 14th, 2007

Minus 2 degrees Celsius, but dry, frost on the cars, a little patchy high cloud, no wind, a nice ride in this morning.

Yesterday was the best, clear, windless, plus 4 degrees, dry. Last night I rode home 10-11pm. The stars were glorious. Little traffic, in the dark sections of the hwy I could see Mars, Orion lying down on his side along the ridge above me to my right - the east.

Ursa Major was dead ahead to the north and the milky way was vivid. I looked for Sagittarius - I love the idea of looking towards the centre of our galaxy 30,000 light years away.

I am using my 27 inch wheels with my touring tires - more durable, flat resistant. In the dark I can’t see all the gravel and recently the trucks are dropping more of it along the shoulders. There is a construction project on right now and the gravel pit is on my way. It has caused me more flat tires than I want to think about, hence the tougher rubber. Heavy duty tubes. The bike weighs about 30 lbs now and that’s without panniers!

We have just begun a two week run of a new play - Oliver, the musical and I am workingf the back stage crew so I am leaving the theatre about 11pm or even later. If the snow flies soon I may have to abandon the bike and get a lift with my Stage Manager who lives in Enderby. He says he has been passing me every night on the road for several weeks now. He offered to give me a lift.

I don’t want to be a wuss, but when the snow starts sticking to the underside of the down tube and freezing up the derailleurs and the brake blocks discretion might be the better part of valour!

Rode 212kms last week 10k run - wt. 206 lbs this morning. a year ago I was 242lbs - down 36lbs in 12 months

stardate 2007.11.07 - Earl Grey, hot.

November 7th, 2007

Rode home in cold rain last night, arrived about 10:42pm - feet soaked and cold. I needed that big, hot cup of tea.
208lbs this morning

262kms ridden last week 10k running. I’ve had two weeks of rest for the running legs. I guess I’ll pick that up again on the w/e or next week. I am beginning a run of a play this week my first rehearsal was Monday night. I rode home but it was dry. I arrived at 11:42pm just in time to go to bed. Rode in to work 8 hours later. Just a wee bit tired.

Betsy at Cervelo has replied to my urgent e-mails and confirmed that she is shipping my frameset today. Hooray!

I am eager to see it.

No rain all week, cooler mornings..

October 26th, 2007

minus 2 degrees C this morning. I wore my woolly mitts. Two flats this week. I have parked the road bike for the time being and am riding the MTB with the tougher tires! More rolling resistance, so I am getting a 15% longer workout and will be stronger because of it.

I have run 10k thus far this week, but have ridden 262kms.

Weight 206lbs.

Wednesday 24 October

October 24th, 2007

Got a flat this morning on the commute into Vernon. I repaired the pinch flat then the valve stem broke. I had to hitch a ride from a truck. The guy who stopped was Mike from Olympia Cycle - my luck is holding. I got to the office before it rained.

Mike explained that my tire beads had gotten old, stretched and were moving on the rim which damaged the valve at the base. Sounds right, so I must buy some new treads.

Six weeks of Kylie’s challenge done 50k per week for 6 weeks.

Graph looks good.

wt. this am: 205lbs some dehydration happening.

Friday - Commuting is going well..

October 12th, 2007

the weather is holding - for now.

Biked 212kms so far this week

run:14k - 36 to go for the week’s goal
